The blocker
How does the blocker work on iPhone?
Pledgely uses Apple's Screen Time technology to switch on the system adult-content filter. It applies across your device, in Safari and in other browsers that respect the filter, not just inside one app. The classification is Apple's own, so Pledgely never sees which sites you visit.
How does the blocker work on Android?
Pledgely runs a local VPN service that filters traffic on your phone and blocks adult domains system-wide, in every browser and every app. The filtering happens entirely on your device. Nothing about your browsing leaves it.
Why can't I choose which sites to block?
This is deliberate. A blocker you can edit in a weak moment is a blocker that stops working exactly when you need it. Pledgely is all-or-nothing, so there is no per-site exception to reach for at 2am.
Does Pledgely record my browsing history?
No. Blocked sites are blocked, not logged. We are told whether your blocker is on or off, and nothing else. Visiting a blocked site is never recorded and never has any financial consequence. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Streaks
How is my streak counted?
Your streak counts the days your blocker has stayed on without interruption. It starts the first time you enable the blocker and grows every day it stays enabled. Milestones land at 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270 and 365 days.
What resets my streak?
Turning the blocker off. That includes pausing it from the app, disabling the VPN on Android or the content filter on iPhone, and signing out while the blocker is running. Your best streak is kept, so a reset never erases what you have already achieved.
Pledges
What is a pledge?
A pledge is a commitment you make to yourself, backed by your own money. You choose a daily amount between $1 and $100. Each day a hold is placed on your card and released again when the day ends with your blocker still on. Nothing is charged for staying clean.
Where do I set up my pledge?
On the web. Sign in at pledgely.app on any device and the pledge wizard walks you through choosing your daily amount and adding your card. On Android you can also set it up in the app. Either way it is the same pledge, and it backs the blocker on every device you use.
When am I actually charged?
Only when you turn the blocker off during a day you have pledged on. That is the single trigger. Visiting a blocked site does not charge you, because Pledgely never sees it. If the blocker stays on, the day's hold is released and you keep your money.
Where does the money go if I am charged?
For now, Pledgely keeps it. We are exploring options to let you choose where charged pledges go in future.
Can I change or stop my pledge?
Yes, at any time from the pledge page on the web. Changing your card mid-cycle applies to your next cycle, so the day already in progress finishes on the card that started it.
Do I have to set up a pledge?
No. The blocker, streaks and milestones all work without one. A pledge is there for people who want the extra weight behind the commitment.
Subscription
Is Pledgely free?
No. Pledgely is a paid subscription, and that is separate from any pledge. The subscription pays for the service. A pledge is your own money, held daily and only ever charged if you disable the blocker.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Through the store you bought it from. On iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions. We cannot cancel a store subscription on your behalf.
Your account
What can I do on the web that I cannot do in the app?
Signing in at pledgely.app gives you the full picture: your pledge settings and card, your billing history, your full activity history, and your account settings. The apps focus on the blocker itself, your streak and your notifications.
How do I change my email or password?
From the account page on the web, once you are signed in.
How do I delete my account?
From the app on iPhone or Android, or from the account page on the web. Deleting stops any future pledge cycles straight away. A cycle already running still finishes normally, and some records are kept for a limited period to handle card disputes. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is retained and for how long. Remember to cancel your subscription in the App Store or Google Play separately.
