The best app to quit porn depends on why your last attempt ended. Most quit porn apps do one of four jobs: teach and motivate you, block the content, tell another person, or put a cost on quitting the blocker. Pick the job you need first, then the app.
(We make Pledgely, so read our entry with that in mind. Every app here needs checking against your own needs, and features and pricing change, so confirm them on the store listing.)
Which kind of app do you need?
| If your last attempt ended because... | Look for | Try |
|---|---|---|
| You lost motivation or didn't know what to do | A recovery program | Brainbuddy |
| You want your faith at the center of it | A faith-based program | Unchaind, Overcomer |
| You kept stumbling onto content | A blocker | BlockerX, Pledgely |
| You needed someone else to know | Accountability reports | Covenant Eyes, Ever Accountable |
| You turned the blocker off yourself | A consequence for turning it off | Pledgely |
Recovery programs: for structure and motivation
Brainbuddy is a long-running recovery app built around a 100-day education program, with progress tracking, a community, recovery tools, and a content blocker. It's on iPhone and Android, and its features need a paid subscription after onboarding. It's a good fit if you want to understand what's happening and have something to do each day. As with any program, motivation is what it runs on, and motivation is lowest at the moment you need it most.
Unchaind and Overcomer cover similar ground in an explicitly Christian frame: streaks, check-ins, an AI companion, accountability features, and content blocking. Unchaind's App Store listing says plainly that you can turn its blocking off at any time. If faith is part of your quit, these will feel natural; see also our guide to Christian accountability apps.
Blockers: for removing easy access
BlockerX is a mature blocker with app blocking, an optional accountability partner, and uninstall friction. That friction stops impulses, though a determined evening can get past it. See BlockerX alternatives.
Built-in filters such as Screen Time's adult website limit on iPhone and Private DNS on Android are worthwhile as extra layers, but you can undo them in moments. For a ranking by platform, see the best porn blockers for iPhone and Android.
Accountability apps: for when someone else needs to know
Covenant Eyes sends reports of your screen activity to an ally you choose, and Ever Accountable offers a similar model in a simpler product. This is strong if you have someone you'd hate to disappoint, and weak if you don't, or if being monitored makes you quietly abandon the app. Our Covenant Eyes alternatives guide covers both sides.
Financial pledges: for when you're the one who turns it off
Pledgely blocks porn system-wide on iPhone and Android, and adds a daily pledge you choose, from $1 to $100. The only thing that ever charges it is turning the blocker off. Keep it on and every daily hold is released back to your card. Nothing you browse is logged. On iPhone, you set up the pledge on the web at pledgely.app.
It has very little recovery content, and it needs a paid subscription plus a card on file. It's the right pick if you already know what to do and your history is install, block, uninstall, relapse. The evidence on whether paying money helps break habits is worth a read before you commit.
Is there a free app to quit porn?
Many apps are free to download, but most of the ones above need a subscription to do anything useful, Pledgely included. Check the listing before you start onboarding. Real no-cost options include built-in filters and peer communities such as r/NoFap and r/pornfree. They can genuinely help, though filters are easy to reverse and communities only help when you open them.
Before you trust an app with this
A quit-porn app holds some of the most sensitive information on your phone, and QUITTR's reported 2026 data exposure showed what can go wrong. Before you sign up, read what the app collects, whether your journal or check-in answers are stored on its servers, and whether you can delete your account. A blocker doesn't need to record your browsing to block it.
How to choose
Don't stack five apps. Pick one for the reason your last attempt failed, and add a second only if it does a different job, such as a program for structure plus a blocker for access. If you've already been through several apps, the pattern is the useful clue: why porn blockers don't work explains the failure most of them share.
Apps can help, but they aren't treatment. If porn is seriously affecting your life, see your treatment options.
Put real stakes behind quitting
Pledgely blocks porn across your whole phone and charges your own pledge only if you turn the blocker off. Stay clean, pay nothing.
